Kennel Technician
Job Requirements:

- For Liability Purposes, Must Be at Least 21 Years Old.
- Must Have Valid Driver’s License, Clean Driving Record, and Vehicle Insurance.
- Must Have Good Personnel / Property Organizing Skills.
- Must Be Capable of Working a 25+ Hour Work Week and Some Weekends.
- Must Be Capable of Working a 9 Hour Workday.
- Must Be Able to Control Dogs in Excess of 100 Lbs.
- Be Attentive and Conscientious.
- Must Communicate / Work Well With Other Staff.
- Computer Skills a Plus!
- Phlebotomy Skills a Plus.
- Quarterly Evaluations Based on: Attendance, Attitude, Initiative, & Work Ethic.
- Any and All Pets Must Be Current on Vaccines.
- Must Be a Good Ambassador of Etowah Valley Humane Society!
Job Duties:
- Make sure EVHS animals are as healthy and well cared for as possible.
- Organize kennel staff to best utilize their talents/strengths.
- Devise strategy to optimize kennel staff efficiency.
- Feed dogs and cats daily.
- Segregate animals based on gender/size/temperament, and/or illness.
- Accompany Adoption Coordinator & Rescue Coordinator to BCAC for selection of intake animals. Determine what may be brought over by gender, size, behavior, etc.
- Heartworm test canines. Administer 3-way test for felines.
- Properly vaccinate, deworm, microchip, and administer anti-flea/tick medication.
- Schedule animals for surgery.
- Constantly evaluate animals based on physical and behavioral traits.
- Thoroughly clean/sanitize kennels and isolation rooms daily and as needed.
- Clean puppy and Q-room every morning and evening.
- Deep clean isolation rooms on regular schedule.
- Give AM/PM meds.
- Q-room to be kept sterile daily.
- Keep floors clean.
- Make sure volunteers walk dogs daily.
- Any sick animal must be seen by the vet the day any illness is noticed.
- Walk all animals that are spayed/neutered on Monday and make sure they have clean bedding before leaving the shelter.
- Set up and maintain medical records on all animals that are on medication and advise Adoption Coordinator on current status.
- Keep/maintain kennel staff duty checklist.
- Maintain/rotate stock on medicines, food, litter, laundry supplies, bathroom supplies, and cleaning supplies.
- Supervise volunteers & community workers.
- Change out dirty or torn beds.
- Ensure shelter has clean laundry.
- Clean all dishes daily.
- Keep outside visitation areas clean.
- Keep lobby, visitation, bathrooms clean.
- Take out trash to dumpster.
- Maintain van (cleaned, oil changes, etc.).
- Maintain grounds.
- Keep storage area maintained, cleaned, and organized.
- Load animals going to off-site adoptions, vet, etc.
- Perform general maintenance at facility.
- Other duties as assigned by Director
